PICTURE BOOK ANNOTATIONS
I have included the following picture books to enhance teacher’s, social workers, school administrators, students and parents learning about this serious social issue of bullying. By reading these books we can all become more informed and prepared to deal with bullying in our schools.
Allman T. (2009). Mean Behind the Screen. What you need to know about cyber bullying: What’s the Issue? Compass Point Books.
This book is very informative and addresses the issue of bullying by teaching victims strategies and preventive steps to deal with teen cyber bullying. This is a useful piece of literature for middle and high school classrooms and teachers. Teachers can use this book to teach a lesson about cyber bullying or for students to inform themselves about the issue.
Hamilton J. (Ed.). (2008). Bullying and Hazing: Issues That Concern You. Michigan: Grenhaven Press.
A wealth of factual information about bullying, hazing and suggestions for parents, schools and teachers. A smart choice of literature for students, parents, school administrators and teachers to help them understand the issue of bullying and implement year round programs to prevent it.
Jakubiak, D. A. (2010). Smart Kid’s Guide to Online Bullying. New York: The Rosen c. Publishing Group, Inc.
This book describes all the types of Cyber bullying as well as including tips to parents and children on the steps to follow. I would encourage teachers, social workers, students and school administrators to inform themselves and read this book about all the kinds of on-line bullying.
Webster, T. D. (1991). Why is everybody Picking on Me?: A Guide to Handling Bullies. New York: Weatherhill, Inc.
A true story about the author of this book who was the victim of bullies for a long period of time. This book would be an awesome resource for teachers and social workers to teach students to deal with the issue of bullying in a constructive manner as well as aid students how to deal with aggressive peers.
