Stop Bullying 101

TYPES OF BULLYING

There are two types of bullying.

Direct Bullying also known as Overt Bullying

  • Characterized by open physical or verbal attacks
  • Easier to recognize
  • Boys are more likely to display this behavior
  • Example: the victim and others  know the identity of the bully.

Indirect Bullying also known as Covert Bullying
  • Includes covert, harmful behaviors.
  • Can be more difficult to recognize.
  • Girls are more likely to display this behavior
  • Example: spreading rumors, using pitch voice.

Teachers should be able to distinguish both types of Bullying. Whether the Bullying comes from girls or boys, by having this knowledge a teacher will be more likely to recognize the early signs of Bullying before it escalates.
